COMMUNITY SERVICE

ACT has an agreement with Collin, Dallas and Denton Counties whereby we take youth that have been court-assigned to community service, providing a safe place for youth offenders to fufill their hours in a welcoming and educational environment. Interested parties may work (generally Monday-Saturday from 9AM to 9PM) at the theatre painting, building, cleaning, sewing, running errands, landscaping, and assisting in the technical aspects of theatre. ACT mentors youth offenders by pairing them with an adult supervisor who will monitor their activities and encourage their interest in the arts.

You do not need to call to make an appointment, but do call on the day you are coming to make sure someone will be here (214-810-3228).

ACT does not require any pre-screening or paper work prior to starting nor do we have training or require any fees or processing from workers. You will be supervised by staff when here.

While at ACT, workers are advised that while on the premises they are recorded by video surveillance and throughout their stay they are under video monitoring. There is no cell-phone use in the building and no fraternization with staff, actors or ACT families. Personal possessions should be left in your car, and you must check in and out with the staff - your hours will be logged and your sheets will be signed accordingly.

Participants are required to observe of our Code of Conduct listed on this site. ACT is happy to host your volunteer/community service hours and pledges to treat you with respect and tolerance, we expect you to do the same while in our home. Thank you!

ACTing in Our Community

Staging a wide variety of shows for kids and grown-ups, camps, events, activities, are but a small part of the vibrant ACT community.

Sharing the Arts

ACT is keenly interested in bringing the arts to schools, community centers, daycares, retirment facilites, churches and any organization that want to expose their members to the arts. ACT has many low-cost or free programs that allow us to travel to you to entertain your audiences in house.

Additionally, ACT routinely works with local family shelters to sponsor tickets and concessions for kids and parents that find themselves in difficult times. ACT community members absorb the costs and provide a fun few hours away from their troubles.

We sponsor at our location or yours - sing-alongs for all ages kids-to-seniors, story dramas, and interactive workshops are all part of the fun!

Call the theatre for details on these and other offerings.

VOLUNTEER

The ACT Community works because YOU work! Our needs are constantly changing, but there are always ways in which you can help, for example:
- lawn care and landscaping - we need flora for the yard, plants and trees and things to make the lawn more appealing; mulch, sod, and lawn maintenance included
- ACT would like to install a play area for the kids; committee or individual to find a company willing to donate the materials and supplies to the theatre to make a playground in the front lawn area for kids to include fencing, we would want to put this on the side facing the street to attract more customers
- plumbing services to connect dishwasher, install washing machine connection (so we can launder costumes on site!) and we are in need of a working washing machine and dryer
- electrician services: to install dryer plug in kitchen and run line for the dyer vent; examine the building's systems to analyze any problems and repair if found

Donate to ACT!

We can't do it without YOU! ACT is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax-exempt organization. Your tax-deductible donation is appreciated!
