Make sure to come to several performances. At the intermission of each performance the audience gets to vote on "who did it". Based on the votes the cast will end the show differently.

Cast of Evening Star Rising

This dynamic cast is bringing the script to life for two weekends in February.

Colter O’Ryan Smith

This is Colter’s first show with ArtCentre Theatre. Previously he could be seen at Kitchen Dog Theatre in “The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek”, or on stage or in the director’s chair at Southern Methodist University. Colter is a 2009 graduate of SMU’s Theatre Studies program. His near future includes a move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career on camera. He would like to thank his mother for pushing him to keep working, Jamie Link and Caitlin Johnston for adventures, cake, and a couch to sleep on, and laughter to keep him sane.

Krishna Smitha

This is Krishna’s first show with ArtCentre Theatre. She graduated from the New Actors Workshop in New York and moved back recently. She has worked in various theatres around the DFW area and is a founding member of the new theatre group, Level Ground Arts. Thanks to Jamey and Lon for giving her this great opportunity and Angela for being here all the time. She also sends special thanks to her amazing family and friends for all their unconditional love and support. Hi Gavin!

Jacques Buckingham

This is Jacques’s first show with ArtCentre Theatre and, also, his first professional turn on stage. He has trained with some of the top coaches in Los Angeles and has worked primarily in Film and TV and is represented by The Linicomn Agency. He is looking forward to jumping back into Texas’ rich artistic community and contributing, somewhat, to its current “Artistic Renaissance”. Thanks, first and foremost, to God for the passion and opportunity to be a vessel in many “story-telling” endeavors; His wife, his children whose support and steadfast belief and never allow his efforts to go unnoticed. To Lon, whose writing is deeply inspiring and gives so much substance for the actor to dive into. Thanks Jamey and the world’s best stage manager, Angela, for planting and watering my theatrical “seed”!! Now it’s time for the garden to grow!

Chris Tucker

CHRIS TUCKER (Father Mack) has enjoyed numerous roles in plays such as Arsenic and Old Lace (Jonathan Brewster), Scrooge (Mr. Fezziwig) and The Music Man (Mayor Shinn). A native Dallasite, he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English from the University of North Texas. In real life he is a writer, a commentator for KERA 90.1 FM, National Public Radio, and a regular contributor to The Dallas Morning News.

Nancy Lamb (Doctor Carlyle) has appeared in productions at Dallas Children’s Theater, Deep Ellum’s Hub Theatre, Plano’s Cox and Courtyard Theatres with Rover Dramawerks, Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre, and Stage West and Casa Mañana in Ft. Worth. Her most recent roles were with Lyric Stage (Showboat), Garland Summer Musicals (Sound of Music and Mame) and Richardson Theatre Centre (a Christie mystery and a Zindel comic-drama). She has performed in the MBS Theatre of Death, and with the school touring companies of Theatre Britain, Word of Mouth Productions, and Story Time Theatre.

Clint Lander

After taking several years off of acting, Clint is now back to acting full time as a career. He started his acting debut in films such as "Any Given Sunday" and "The Rookie". This is his first attempt at stage theater since high school. The Observer wrote that his latest role as Rocky, in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", was paralleled to the unique and ever entertaining acting styles of" Jack Black". He is currently building up his resume to switch to film in the near future.

Kaitlyn Sicula

Kaitlyn is a junior (16) at McKinney High School, and is part of their award winning broadcasting crew, their student teacher program Ready, Set, Teach!, and their varsity theater program. She is currently a part of three productions, assistant stage manager in my school production of 'The Pajama Game', Miss Scarlet in CLUE here at the Art Centre Theater, plays the role of Jennifer in this production of 'Evening Star Rising'. At school, she is also in the process of picking their competitive one-act play piece. Along with those performances, she has also participated in shows with other local theatre companies. She has a part time job as a tennis-shop clerk, and is working to get at least 100 hours of community service in before this school year is over.

The ArtCentre Theatre (formerly Teatro delle Muse), proudly announces the cast of Evening Star Rising written by Lon E. Rogers, Directed, by Jamey Jamison.

Kevin Landis, age 19, sits on death row for a murder he did not commit. Or did he? Laura Enders, a graduate student in psychology is writing her doctorate dissertation on the characteristics of the young criminal mind. Her objective is to find behavioral markers for the early detection of criminality—a litmus test for sociopathy. She obtains permission from the prison warden to study Kevin. In an attempt to formulate an extensive psychological profile, she interviews Kevin in depth and over an extended period of time. She also takes statements from his girlfriend, his priest, his family, and his best friend. The story takes a ominous turn when Laura loses all professional objectivity and bonds emotionally with Kevin. Convinced of Kevin's innocence, Laura sets out to win a new trial for him, and to write a book hoping to sway public opinion against the death penalty.

Evening Star Rising avoids the hackneyed arguments pro and con of this politically sensitive issue. Instead, this story puts a human face on the condemned. The viewers are invited to draw their own conclusions about Kevin, whose proof of guilt, as Laura discovers, falls short of the legal standard for conviction: guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Opening weekend for Rumors was a success! This review was submitted from an Event Alert Patron who attended her first performance at The ArtCentre Theatre this past weekend.

"Just wanted to tell you how much my friends and I enjoyed the production of
Rumors. Those middle and high schoolers were tremendous.
I started to wonder as I read the program and saw how young they were, I had
some misgivings, but the kids were total professionals. Even an alarm clock
going off in the audience didn't stop them.

Calvin Leipins owned the audience as soon as he walked on stage. His
mannerisms were so good, he seemed to be channeling some snide New York
socialite. The actress portraying Cookie was so hilarious and made us think
of Lucille Ball and Judy Holliday.

The four of us had a wonderful time.

Plano, Texas January 12,2010 Select acting students from drama programs throughout the metroplex and beyond have spent the last 2 months preparing for the Art Centre Theatre's Season opener. The production, Rumors, will open January 22 and run through February 6 at the Art Centre Theatre 1028 15th Place, Plano, Texas 75074. The play opens in a large, tastefully appointed townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken and wife Chris must get "the story" straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

"This is my favorite role yet," Katherine Ingram (Booker T Washington), "I am always the quirky girl, but this time I get to be normal … well almost normal. Can Chris be called normal?"
