VIOLIN & VIOLA LESSONS WITH DAVID WONG
David Wong is the founder and music director of both the Plano International Youth Orchestra (PIYO) and the Elite Cultural Center at Richardson. The PIYO’s predecessor, the Dallas Chinese American Youth Orchestra (DCAYO), was the first full-size youth symphony orchestra among Asian communities in the United States. Notable performances included the Meyerson Symphony Center in 1995, the opening ceremony for World Cup ’94 soccer in Dallas, the Dallas Multi-Cultural Festival in 1993, and the 1992 Mrs. USA Pageant in Plano (televised by CBS). A Dallas-based musician dedicated to educating young students, Wong also founded the North American Elite Youth Orchestra (NAEYO) in 1995 by recruiting a group of talented young musicians from across the country. For eight years they performed in domestic and international concert tours, including Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Singapore, Taiwan and China. These major concerts were marked by the production of 11 compact discs and DVDs. Wong also served as guest conductor of several Chinese symphony orchestras (including Henan, Xia-man Chengdu Opera House Orchestra; Beijing Central, Sichuan, Guangzhou, Xi-an, Wu-an, Guangxi, Nanjing Conservatory) and the University of Central Oklahoma Orchestra. His ideas and achievements in blending eastern and western musical styles, training young musicians, and promoting cultural exchange between Americans and Chinese, have been recognized by city arts commissions locally and by governments internationally. He was honored as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 1993 by Taiwan, and in 1996 received the Music and Culture Award from the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce. He also received the 14th Annual Golden Eagle Award from Tamkang University (Taiwan) in 2000 and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Central Oklahoma.
